Completely Restored

October, 2009

When Joe and Linda Murphy see a for-sale advertisement for a “beautiful 3-story Victorian house in need of some TLC”, the couple jumps at the chance to transform the long admired estate into their dream home. Linda sees the renovation as a chance to indulge their passion for antiques and to get closer to an era they believe was a better time. Joe privately hopes the project will fill the void that has opened in their family life. But when he awakens one morning to find a horse-drawn milk cart in his driveway, he realizes his family has gotten more than they bargained for! It seems the Murphys have been inexplicably whisked back in time, to Marshalltown, Iowa, circa 1909. With the help of their mysterious new neighbor, Dr. Silas Fischer, the family struggles to fit in to this new—or, rather, old—world. Along the way, they encounter a number of historical figures and events, including: Reverend Billy Sunday, celebrated evangelist and former professional baseball player; T. Nelson Down, acclaimed magician and the King of Koins ; Charles Dawes, future vice president for Calvin Coolidge; and the 1909 World Series between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Detroit Tigers.

As time passes and the Murphys cling to the hope of finding their way back to their own time, they come to realize that they are slowly finding their way back to one another. Completely Restored is a unique blend of historical fiction and science fiction, a richly detailed page-turner full of humor, love, and wonder.
